Warwickshire, UK, 1st March, 2025: Warwickshire, UK, 1st March, 2025:Warwick Acoustics, developer of revolutionary Electrostatic Audio Systems for the automotive and consumer markets, announces that its unique and patented Electrostatic Speakers can reduce overall energy consumption by up to 5% in a Premium EV. In a 100 kWh battery capacity car, this could see an increase in real-world driving range of up to 20 miles* over the same vehicle using a conventional speaker system.

Warwick Acoustics CEO, Mike Grant, commented: "As the EV market matures, consumers are more aware than ever of the variations in real-world range at different temperatures and different driving environments vs the official certification tests*. We know from our work with multiple vehicle manufacturers that they are increasingly focussed on reducing energy consumption in ancilliary systems such as the climate control and audio systems to minimise consumer’s need to change their driving behaviour with EVs.

Minimising the difference between the brochure figure and real-world range is therefore vital for customer satisfaction. Just adding more batteries to increase vehicle range is expensive and in many cases impractical. With many energy saving efforts, the reduction in consumption comes with compromises.

By integrating a Warwick Acoustics’ patented Electrostatic Audio System, there are no compromises, only benefits. The energy saving we achieve is equivalent to approximately £480** worth (5 kWh) of avoidable cost in additional battery pack capacity. In terms of customer experience, we offer the best automotive audio fidelity available AND an improvement in vehicle range."

The British-designed and manufactured Electrostatic Audio System technology from Warwick Acoustics brings a revolution to in-car audio, moving away from the traditional format of a speaker, the fundamental principles of which haven’t altered for nearly 100 years. Warwick Acoustics will begin volume manufacturing its automotive electrostatic audio systems this year. The electrostatic audiosystems will debut with an as yet unannounced global, luxury, automotive company later this year, making it the first car ever to feature this patented technology.

FOOTNOTE * EV range is subject to many factors, of which outside temperature and vehicle speed have the highest impact. The estimated average range saving on a single charge of 20 miles is based on the following assumptions. Premium EV’s with a circa 100kWh battery and rated WLTP consumption of 3.2 miles per kWh. Urban driving, mild weather real-world range from a range of premium EV manufactures vehicles as reported by EV-Database.org. An audio system with 20 or more speakers. The UK DoT urban average speed data from 2023. Over 50% of the time in journeys with the car with the audio system on and at half volume level. Current official range tests like WLTP test by the EU and the Environmental Protection Agency test in the US do not include the consumption of the audio system, so the impact on range is not included in the stated range figure for an EV. EV’s are typically driven for 80% of the time in Urban areas.
